Lawyer Referral Service
The Bar's Lawyer Referral Service
offers clients an opportunity to find a lawyer, and lawyers an opportunity to
find clients.
The Bar's Referral Service is
voluntary - it is not mandatory that attorneys participate in the Referral
program. For an annual fee of $25, the lawyers can sign up for the Referral
Service - at that time, they list what types of cases they handle and what
areas of West Virginia they are willing to handle them in.
All lawyers participating in the
Lawyer Referral Service have agreed to provide a consultation of up to 1/2 hour
for a fee of no more than $10 which should be paid at the time of the
consultation. Any further fees or retainers will be charged at the
attorney's regular rate. If citizens can not afford an attorney, they may
wish to contact the legal aid office in their area.
The West Virginia State Bar has not
evaluated the training or qualifications of the lawyers listed in the Referral
Service. Our pool of lawyers contains the names of all nearby lawyers who are
willing to talk with citizens under the rules governing the Referral program.
We suggest that citizens attempt to learn the local reputation of the attorneys
referred and that you make your choice of lawyers based on your
research.
To obtain a Lawyer Referral, please
contact the Lawyer Referral Service line directly at 304/558-7991.
For attorneys desiring to join the
Referral Service, please contact the LRS Coordinator, Connie Blessing at
