The West Virginia Neighborhood Investment Program

Your donations to qualified nonprofit organizations can earn you tax credits.
The Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) is a program established to increase the rate of charitable giving to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations in West Virginia. The NIP provides an annual $2 million in tax credits as an incentive to stimulate and increase donations from the business community to qualifying nonprofit organizations. A private or corporate donor can receive tax credit in the amount of 50 percent of their qualified cash, personal property, real estate or stock donations, up to a maximum of $100,000 in any one-year period. These credits apply to the business franchise tax, corporate net income tax or personal income tax payable to the state of West Virginia. Some in-kind professional services are also eligible contributions.

For more information on the Neighborhood Investment Program, contact Stacey Holley with the West Virginia Development Office at (304) 558-2001 or toll-free at (800) 982-3386.

Sixty-seven applicants have been approved for participation in the fiscal year 2001 Neighborhood Investment Program. Participants have until June 30, 2001, to distribute their allocation of tax credits. The minimum eligible donation upon which a tax credit can be issued is $500. The maximum donation eligible for a tax credit is $200,000.
