The Law Works

Why did the judge do that? What was the jury thinking? What are those lawyers trying to get away with now? Why is the law like that? How will this affect me? Now you can find out!

Beginning Sunday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m., West Virginia Public Broadcasting will televise THE LAW WORKS, a weekly, half-hour examination of the how and why of our system of justice. Hosted by Morgantown attorney and West Virginia State Bar President Dan Ringer, THE LAW WORKS will feature working lawyers and others involved in the legal system. Guests will discuss the events of the day as well as their experiences and understanding of how people and the practice of law are affected by those events. THE LAW WORKS will examine how the courts interpret and make law, and what it means to the citizen. Topics will be taken from the headlines of both the state and the nation - the cases in the news that involve and affect ordinary people.

Ringer is well known to viewers in the northern part of West Virginia as a co-host of two prior West Virginia Public Television public affairs series - On the Line With... and Stateline Friday. He has been seen statewide as the host of numerous WVPTV specials concerning education, voters rights, political candidate debates, and most recently as the host and co-producer of Law Day '99, How Changes in the Law Affect You.

The show will originate in the Morgantown studios of West Virginia Public Television, but will include guests from around the Mountain State. THE LAW WORKS will be broadcast to all of West Virginia and to significant portions of surrounding states. The series is produced by Brian Gessner, former associate producer and current director of the popular medical call-in program DOCTORS ON CALL.

Financial support for THE LAW WORKS is provided by The West Virginia State Bar, ALPS insurance, The Mountain State Bar Association, the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, and the West Virginia Bar Foundation.
