The West Virginia State Bar’s Veterans and Military Affairs Committee will be hosting a webinar on Friday, October 30, 2015. The webinar will be live in Beckley and will be broadcast to the Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Clarksburg, Huntington, and Martinsburg. The webinar, which will run from 10:00 – 11:40, has been approved for 2.0 hours of general West Virginia CLE credit. Attendance is FREE but attendees will be asked to stay at the VAMC for one hour after the seminar working directly with veterans who will be scheduled for appointments at each facility between noon and 1:00 p.m. For a list of topics and speakers click here.
The open hearing scheduled by the West Virginia State Bar’s Unlawful Practice of Law Committee on the issue of whether the appearance by non-lawyers in an advocacy role in state administrative proceedings constitutes the unlawful practice of law will have a location change to the Ceremonial Courtroom at the Kanawha County Courthouse located at 409 Virginia St. E., Charleston, WV 25301. The hearing will still take place on September 3, 2015, beginning at 11:00 a.m. All speaking slots have been filled. Charity Roast of WVU President E. Gordon Gee
The WV Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors invites members of the judiciary, the legal profession and the general public to attend the 5th Lunch and Laughs With A Legal Legend on Friday, September 11, 2015, at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown, beginning at 11:30 AM, where the honored guest will be WVU President E. Gordon Gee.
This is an event not to be missed. Three “roasters” will have the opportunity to tell stories and tales about President Gee, who served as a Professor and the Dean of the WVU College of Law approximately 30 years ago, and then he will have an opportunity to respond and make comments. The proceeds from the Lunch will be divided between President Gee’s favorite charitable activity and Bar Foundation grants.
Sponsorships of $2,000 are provided a reserved table with 10 seats. Individual tickets can be purchased for $60. A majority of the amount is tax deductible.

The West Virginia Tax Institute, sponsored by The West Virginia Bar Association, The West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accounts, The College of Law, the College of Business and Economics and West Virginia University, will present the 66th Annual Meeting beginning Sunday evening, October 18, 2015 and continuing through 12:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon, October 20, 2015 at The Resort at Glade Springs, Daniels, West Virginia. Sunday evening will kick off the seminar with the recent Federal Tax Updates. Monday will include various topics. Tuesday’s program will be dominated by the West Virginia State Tax Department. This seminar qualifies for 16 hours of CLE and CPE, including ethics.
